Observations 2011-04-25
These are the links I have saved in my CloudApp since my last “Observations” post:
1. Thymer
In the sea of to-do lists, this one is one I find myself using the most. Mostly because of the ability to set up projects and teams. To collaborate on a project and give each other to-do lists is an absolute necessity in my field of work.
2. Netlog
I mostly saved this link in CloudApp so I could check into it at a later date. I got a request to link up with someone and I find myself wondering why I need to join yet another network..
3. How are Mac & PC people different? (Mashable post)
Fun infographic from Mashable.
4. Theo Jansen – Animaris Ordis Parvus
Thge Jansen, the creator of the beach animals that move and learn from their surroundings, will soon start selling a miniature version of the Animaris Ordis Parvus. (must have!)
5. Water Changes Everything (film on YouTube)
Great film which quickly and clearly explains the global water situation. Check it out!
6. Fonts In Use
Beautiful, simple and just lovely blog that I briefly forgot about. (this reminded me to subscribe to their RSS feed)
7. A few clever advertisements that caught my eye (Chive post)
In the ongoing noise of posts on the Chive site, there are a few good posts occasionally.
8. 5 Tips for Keeping Remote Workers in the Loop (Mashable post)
Good tips for any organization, whether it has people working remotely or not.
9. Superkraft (in Swedish – post by barajadaförda)
Touching description of ADHD from a teenager to a 10 year old.
10. HipChat
An online chat service with standalone desktop app that we’re trying out at work instead of using IRC when communicating with the development team.
(so far so good – like the email notifications if you’re mentioned while offline)
11. Panabee
A domain name generator that works really well! Enter keyword and it spits out a slew of suggestions. Some of them are suggestions you might not have thought of when looking for that perfect name for your next project..
I suggest you put this one in your bookmarks (or however you choose to save important links).
12. Powerful New CSS Techniques and Tools (Smashing Mag post)
A great list of tips and tricks you can do directly in CSS nowadays.. =)
13. CSS-Tricks – downloads
Another list of useful CSS tricks and links to demos and downloads.
14. Comic Sans Criminal
A simple to understand guide to the most hated font of all and a form to report misuse of this favorite of non-designers everywhere.
15. Dynamic Perception
The maker of a great time-lapse dolly. (kept the link for future reference)
16. The Mountain by Terje Sorgjerd (video on Vimeo)
Incredible time-lapse filming on El Teide, the highest mountain in Spain.
17. Designelever sågas av branschen (in Swedish – Aftonbladet article)
Found this interesting old article about which design schools had the most satisfied students and which schools were the most respected in the industry back in 2008.
18. Spotify Live by Johan Heikensten (video on Vimeo)
A case film by Hyper Island student Johan Heikensten. Brief: Create a solution to a problem facing the music industry.
19. Moleskine app for iPhone / iPad
I saved this link so I could check out the app later. But changed my mind when I heard how unnecessarily complicated they made it. I might still try it out one of these days just to try (and because I love their [analog] notebooks).
20. Terrifying video of the Tsunami in Japan
This is the video that made it all extremely real for me. To see a whole village disappear in front of your eyes on the matter of minutes makes you feel so small and helpless. See this film and try to help any way you can.
21. Galerie d’Art 191
A lovely little gallery we had the pleasure of visiting while in Paris.
22. Francis Violette
Link to a tumblr blog of this French artist. We would have bought one of his paintings if we could have brought it home on the plane. (but it was too big)
(edit: oops forgot to add the link – fixed)
23. Social Media: The Complexity of Simplicity…and vive-versa (post in Social Media Today)
It’s always good to read about something you think you know a bit about, just to get a new perspective every once in a while.. There are nuggets of gold hidden in the most unlikely places.
24. Pic of the Day: Crazy Polar Bear (post in My Modern Met)
Incredible photo by Tom Leeson.
25. Ännu flera verktyg till dina sociala medier del 3 (in Swedish – post in Social Factory)
Part three apparently. (I probably should check out the other posts as well).
Tools for your social online presence. At least worth checking out, if nothing else, to see what’s out there and know what’s available. You never know when you’ll find a use for them.
26. Appmakr
Has anyone tried this? Apparently an online tool for making iPhone apps. (no coding required)
I’m wondering, because in most cases, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is..
27. Top 5 Web Designs Misatkes Small Businesses Make (post in Mashable)
It’s good to remind yourself of these every once in a while..
28. Sokoblovsky Farms
Love this project by DirecTV.
29. Reutermo Bygg & Snickerer (in Swedish)
Apparently one of the best carpenters in the area of Stockholm. I saved the link to his site after getting this tip.
30. Intern Store
Great site by the Mobile Application class at Hyper Island in Karlskrona. Congrats!
31. They Rule
Incredible site mapping all the men and women of power, and their connections. Love this kind of thing. Make it all visible and clear!
Phew.. A fairly long list this time.. Maybe I should try to do these more often (and a bit shorter)?
