Custom Google Maps place pins

As you have all noticed, Google is in the middle of a serious overhaul in the design department.

Google Documents, Google Maps, YouTube etc, etc, are all getting new looks.

One thing I just came across in Google Maps might be a bit of an oversight though..
The ability to use your own, custom, place pins is still an option, but it seems that they don’t appear on the map once it’s saved.
If you change back to one of Google Maps own place pins, it shows up on the map.

Here’s a map I worked on for work a few months ago that I happened to have saved a screenshot of:

(the same map is now blank – but the places appear in the menu to the right as you can see below)

Is this happening to you too?

Any ideas if there’s a fix on the way?

I don’t mind the Google pins, but I would much rather be able to use my own.

Seems to still be happening.  Any luck solving it?

I’ve searched around a bit since I put this post up, but I’ve had no luck yet.

I’ve been “forced” to use the standard pins for the time being.
Hopefully this problem is something that will be fixed in the near future.

The people I know at Google have nothing to do with Google Maps, so I don’t want to bother them with this, I know they have plenty of other stuff to worry about.. =)

If anyone has more information on this, please let me know and I’ll do a follow-up post on this.
    Thanks!
