Using cards as a catalyst in idea development
This is something we tried at the agency for the first time today.
Using Ola Möller’s cards “Method Kit” as an inspiration, I made a set of cards with 50 different pictures (and our logo on the back – visible on the picture above) that we use during brainstorming as a catalyst for changing the way you see the problem by introducing associations to a picture that I carefully selected to be able to mean many different things to different people.
Another set of cards I made is more a collection of methods, a lot of them can be found in the Toolbox section of this site. But this way you can easily use them while working on idea development where a computer would be more of distraction than a helpful tool I feel.
Much props to Ola for the inspiration, and I truly suggest you pick up one (or both) of the Method Kit decks for your next project, I promise you that they will become an extremely useful asset to your project team. Plus there’s a deck for personal development as well.
Ola came by the office the other day and told me that there are big plans for Method Kit in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. (of course I’ll keep you posted when I’m able to tell you more.)
And while I’m on the subject, check out another one of Ola’s many projects, The Project of How, where you’ll find tons of methods for creative development.
